Take off your armour, it is time for a rest, and a dance in 7/4 time! "a Rest for Knights” is the first singel from the album Mensa Rotunda from the composer’s collective OJKOS. Here you get a taste of a big band anno 2021.
Composer and producer on this record, Andreas Rotevatn, has been chopping up the drumming of Eivind Helgerød, and thus hints to the heritage of both hip hop and electronic music. But at the same time does not leave the world of jazz, giving room for a savoury guitar solo signed Arne Martin Nybo, and some Gil Evanesque brass chords.
I addition, visual artist Bjørnar Sira has made a music video for the tune - a quite unusual phenomenon in the jazz world. Here you meet the contrast between the electric and the acoustic, the present and eternity, and the high tempo of the city compared to the rest you can find in nature.
Within the upcoming album are compositions by Andreas Rotevatn, born in 1989 in a majestic fjord on the west coast of Norway. This is his second album as the composer for OJKOS, an orchestra consisting of 14 jazz composers in Oslo. The first, alea iacta est, gave him a nomination for the Norwegian Grammy - Spellemann. Rotevatn has also produced the album, together with one of his idols: Lars Horntveth, Jaga Jazzist’s main composer.
